Will you be a Torchbearer for two Sisters?

Meet Sisters Wilimena and Edwina

Half-sisters Wilimena and Edwina live in different households (“Same ma, different Pa” as the Liberian expression goes) that are headed by grandmothers who do their best to provide food and shelter but it's not easy - especially because both households include other grandchildren.

Wilimena is 8 years old and attends the 3rd grade at the Royal Garden School.

Edwina, age 18, is a 12th grader at Ford Madden Christian Academy.

Grateful.

Both girls love being in school and are grateful for the opportunity to learn. They are relieved to have a secure place to study and are grateful that school fees are one less burden on their family’s limited resources.

If we walked to school with either sister, it would take about 20 minutes during the dry season, and 10 minutes longer during the rainy season. The greatest challenge of this daily journey is hunger. Without breakfast, nor lunch, it’s hard to concentrate. Regardless of this challenge, they are happy to learn, to be with friends, and are hopeful for the future.

Dreamers.

Both girls dream of becoming doctors. “Saving lives” is an especially appealing idea to Wilimena.

Wilimena loves the Friday chapel services at her school, the joy of making new friends, and dancing - which she considers to be her “special talent”. One day, she would like to perform for others. She worries about missing school as she doesn't want to fall behind.

Edwina wishes that people knew about her special talent, which is singing. Her grandmother’s financial burdens worry Edwina, and the security of school sponsorship is a great relief. She loves to be challenged by new ideas and perseveres through the challenges of her school day.

Torchbearers invited!

We continue to invite “torchbearers” who can partner with Keyara’s Gift to spread the light of education through sponsorship of students like Edwina and Wilimena.

Can you help us reach our goal of sponsoring 126 kids? We are already at 34%!

Gratefully,

Karen and Kreig
