Torchbearer.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, “torchbearer” = a person who leads or inspires others in working toward a valued goal.
In the case of the 2024 Paris Olympics, 11,000 torchbearers carried the Olympic flame from Olympia, Greece, on its journey to Paris. The Paralympic flame began its journey to Paris from Stoke Mandeville, England, the inspirational birthplace of the Paralympics that started with 16 injured WWII veterans. People from all walks of life participated in this symbolic and inspirational ritual. Through villages, cities, waterways - even the Chunnel - the flame of hope was carried.
We are recruiting torchbearers.
As you know, the goal of Keyara’s Gift is to inspire hope and bring the light of education to kids in Liberia. If you are reading this - you’ve probably already carried this flame by partnering financially. We are so grateful and thank you on behalf of the lives you’ve impacted. In some cases, your support has literally saved a life - offering food, shelter, and medical aid. This school year we have 126 students waiting for torchbearers to shed light on their arduous journeys.
Meet Mark.
Mark, a sixth grader at Christ Arena Christian School, relishes the opportunity to learn and dreams of becoming a police officer, or perhaps learning a trade, like becoming an electrician.
His 10-15 minute walk to school, which takes twice as long during the rainy season, is challenging because he leaves home without breakfast. It’s tough for his single mom to provide food for Mark and his two siblings, especially because she suffers from a chronic illness. Mark worries there will be no food when he returns home.
Sadly, perpetual hunger is a common reality for students in Liberia.
If only his friends knew how hard it has been to grow up without a father. He gets teased if he doesn’t perform well in school and that makes him mad - but he loves learning and is grateful to be in school.
Anything that might help his mom makes Mark happy. He has friends who must leave school when their fees aren’t paid - and it is a great relief to know that his place is secure because school fees are covered by donors like you.
By supporting Mark’s education, you offer this wonderful 12-year and his family hope for a brighter future.
During our recent visit, Mark was excited to carry a bag of rice we brought for his family. Rice is a staple food and in combination with sauce, often the single meal of the day.
Will you be a Torchbearer?
We need $600 dollars per student. No amount is too small. Let’s light the fire!
Thank you for partnering with Keyara’s Gift. This work can’t happen without you!
Gratefully,
Karen & Kreig
PS - In anticipation of the 2028 LA Olympic games, the cauldron has already been lit!

Fall Campaign Update
This fall we are seeking to raise $100,000. These funds will cover all the school fees and supplies necessary for all 126 students plus provide operational funds, such as staff salaries and medical care for the next six months.
As of today, we have raised 20% of our goal. Any amount you can give will help us reach this goal and set us up for a successful year!
